"Meta" presents its first holographic glasses "Orion"

Along with the new Quest 3S virtual reality glasses and new artificial intelligence (AI) features, Meta unveiled a couple of other major innovations on September 25 during its annual Connect event.

One of them is the company's first prototype of "fully holographic" augmented reality (AR) glasses, currently called "Orion".

Meta first revealed that it was developing holographic smart glasses five years ago, but has actually been working on the project for ten years. The company's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, emphasized that these are the most advanced AR glasses ever made and is positioning them as a device that will change the way we interact with technology and could even replace the smartphone.

In terms of specs, Meta says the Orions are very light at less than 100 grams. True, Zuckerberg admitted that their design is not yet completely finished. These AR glasses work both indoors and outdoors. Meta claims they provide a “digital experience unbound by the edges of a smartphone screen” as they display holographic elements in real space. Also, AI solutions are built into the device, which, for example, allow you to better understand the world around you.
